Players either attempt to escape as one the high school students, or take on the role of one of the Fiends – a variety of player-controlled monsters each with its own unique attacks, combat styles, and abilities that can tear the classmates into pieces. Set in a gruesome alternate reality, Last Year is a collaborative, asynchronous PvP horror game pitting five high-school classmates against a sixth player controlling a nightmarish beast. Picking up from where the now-defunct Elastic Games left off, Last Year is relaunching today on Steam as a free-to-play title with purchasable cosmetics. In spite of the initial mixed reception to their asymmetrical horror game Last Year, developer Undaunted Games aren’t giving up on the game or its community. Players can also collect and trade 8-bit versions of the official Garbage Pail Kids cards, including some that can be used in battle. Levels including Egypt, Transylvania, and Hell itself will test the mettle of even the most hardcore old-school gamer. Players will be able to instantly swap between each kid, depending on which challenges they’re facing at any given moment.
